About Me
Who am i?
Hi, I’m Emiliano, or as many friends call me, Milly. I’m an adventurer, environmentalist, and most recently, a cybersecurity enthusiast.
Although I learned Python years ago, it wasn’t until a year ago when I started working through Try Hack Me tutorials after work that I decided I wanted to enter the cybersecurity industry. Since then, I’ve continued to work through Try Hack Me (now sitting at top 3% of users), configured a home lab, and gained industry recognized certifications.
Now, I’m putting all my effort into learning more by expanding the uses of my home lab and practicing more THM and HTB challenges.
My proffESIONAL side
Before taking an interest in cybersecurity, I worked as a building envelope consultant for four years and as a structural engineer-in-training for one year. During that time, I worked closely with developers, architects, and contractors to iron out architectural designs, provide quality control, and perform construction management.
I’ve been lucky enough to work on a large variety of projects, from data centers, to LEED certified transit stations, to mixed-use buildings. It has given me an appreciation of what makes good urban planning and has reinforced my focus on environmental issues.
the adventurer in me
Outside of work, I like to spend my time snowboarding, and mixing my passions of traveling and riding my motorcycle.
In 2019, I left my job in Seattle to take a motorcycle trip through Africa. When I began, I did not have a concrete plan; I just planned to buy a motorcycle in South Africa and generally travel north until I got tired of traveling.
Over the next few months, I rode through a total of nine countries, stayed in rural villages, slept in tents and hostels, performed many emergency repairs on my motorcycle, and more. In the end, my journey was seven months long before it was brought to its end by a Covid quarantine in Rwanda. I stayed in Rwanda for another seven months, but I took advantage of the time available by learning Python and machine learning.
Eventually, I plan to go around the rest of the world on a motorcycle.
